Did anyone else see a bright blue flash light up the sky tonight around 9pm? I was driving home from Baton Rouge and saw it light up the sky. Figured it was a strong bolt of lightening and even looked around thinking perhaps it was an explosion at one of the chemical plants. There's a few people on facebook posting that they saw it in southern Mississippi as well. Anyone else?

I saw the same flash on my way to BR from Lafayette on I-10 around 9:00pm.
Thought it was strange for lightening. no clouds..
I even thought dang that might have been a Fireball or a Bolide.

If the reports are believable and it was visible in a wide swath of the south, then it had to have occurred at a VERY high altitude. This would tend to rule out most terrestrial sources of the flash ie Weather.

When I saw it, I found myself jokingly waiting for the shock wave to arrive but apparently some people felt this, or at least heard it.

    Thats pretty cool.

Thank you for assuring me that I am not delusional. Yes, I saw it at 8:45. I was looking north and saw what resembled a large Roman candle throwing off sparks. The center mass was burning with a greenish color. Figured it was a meteor. But it looked CLOSE.

At first I really thought it was the end of the world, as prophetized by members of the tin foil hat club, Bayoushooter chapter.
