Just wondering because here at Polk, we just do not have a very big car market. Even the car market in Alexandria and Lake Charles are pretty small.

Would I not pay any tax if I bought from Texas and then pay the tax when I brought the vehicle back home to get plates?

Houston is about 3 hours away as is Baton Rouge.

    I'm looking for a used:

    Hyundai Santa Fe
    Hyundai Sonata
    Buick
    Toyota Camry

-all of the above must have an auxiliary audio input and heated seats.

Only new car I'm considering is a Volkswagen Jetta SE w/convenience package.

You pay tax where its registered, not bought.

I paid cash for my Mustang when I lived in Houston, as well as 4% car tax, and brought it with me when I moved and the lovely state of la charged me the other 5% since where I moved to was at 9%. They have reciprocity, basically, but La charges more and expects you to pay the difference on taxes on cars that you've owned from other states. A total scam.

When I bought my ranger in tenn I paid tax. Then I moved to Washington, and I paid tax, then la. And more tax. It was over $3500 total on a $12,000 truck.

I payed LA taxes when I bought my escalade in Houston. The dealership handled all the paperwork. Took a little longer since they had to figure it out what the tax % was where I lived. But I saved probably around 8k over what Cadillac of Metairie wanted for the EXACT same model/color/options.
