Camping in Bogue Chitto NWR

Anyone go camping in the Bogue Chitto wildlife refuge? Not the state park, but the refuge. I know it's all primitive tent camping. Looking for suggestions for specific areas to camp. Been looking over the online maps, the website and some brochures, looks like for ease of access, the best place to drive to without much trailblazing would be near the Holmes Bayou trail. Don't have a boat, so crossing one of the many creeks or rivers isn't an option. Suggestions?

I'm going to try a kayak trip soon. I have never been back there by boat except for walkiah bluff launch into pearl river. Do you know what permits if any is required to camp there? I'm still trying to find info.

Load up a backpack... walk until you find a scenic spot.

From what I remember, all you need to do is fill out the self-clearing permit at one of the stations.

Yea I know wherr the old river wma stations are but I have no clue where the boga chitto ones are.

Thanks that helps. As for walking in I would park at lock 3 boat launch and walk in there you will be stuck on the west side of the canal though.

I think permits are available at all lock launches and every access point. That's where I used to get them and they are good for the year.

I've been looking at it also. I'm assuming you can just walk across lock 3? I was looking at the bogue chitta river. It looks about mile south of lock 3, How's the terrain?

Not sure if you can walk across I have launched a boat at the launch there a few times. I was not super focused on the lock itself but I'm pretty sure they have a chain link fence around it so you cannot access it. However I'm not 100% sure it's completely blocked off.
