Is it legal to casually shoot anywhere on a WMA?

For example if I were to go camping on public land and bring along my AR would it be legal to discharge it? Or is it regulated to shooting only for hunting or at a public range?

Asking because in states like Arizona I know they can just drive out to the desert and shoot anywhere legally.

I have never found anywhere like that in Louisiana.

No just go out and shoot, No just go out and camp either.

You can camp only in designated campgrounds on WMAs.
Target practice is illegal on WMAs.
Firearms are not allowed on WMAs unless a legal firearms hunting season is in progress. Guns maybe transported through a WMA by direct route if unloaded and no stops are made on the WMA. Concealed carry is allowed on a WMA but that firearm cannot be used to take game unless a season is open that makes that caliber a legal method of take of game.
In other words, you can't just go to a WMA and shoot.

Would you let us know location, date, and times you're planning on casually shooting the AR so we can remain outside of the effective range?

I'd feel safe with you causally shooting your AR vs the woods full of horn hungry hunters that have no idea where each other are shooting at twig horns when the wind blows! Lol lol

I hunted state land once, never again!!

He didn't know, so he asked the question to people he figured could offer some insight. That's more than most folks do these days- and I think that's worth something. :)

Roux- tbone offers some good info. You can also visit the LDWF website and get some info on the subject - but he covered most of it.

X2 asking first instead of asking forgiveness in the justice system.
