Mr. Eds in Metairie on Vets is severing some damn good catfish right now. It's a whole fried fillet. It's being served two ways. One with some kind of sauce and one over etouffee. (If you go there, let me know. Maybe I can meet you for an exchange. )

My wife is a fried catfish aficionado, and the only two places she wants it from are Middendorfs and this dumpy dive called Warner's in Bogalusa.

Middendorfs thin fried is the best ever IMO.

Agreed, it's hard to screw up catfish, but Frank Brigtsen is a Master Chef, not just a fry cook. I could suck his tartar sauce from a baby bottle all day. It doesn't come from a five gallon Sysco jar.

Exactly my routine as a kid, but it was thin cut or bust for me.

Charlie's, Not Catfish Charlie's.

Catfish Charlie's is in hammond and is OK. Charlie's in Springfield is top notch.
I haven't been to Middendorf's in a long time.

Catfish Charlie's in Hammond is my favorite catfish house. It has thick fried catfish with some batter. Middendorf's is liked by people that want thin catfish with lots of batter.
Cock of the Walk in Jackson, MS is great if you're ever in the area.

Mr Ed's on Vets is very good but I haven't tried their catfish. Believe it or not, the catfish at Ground Patti is pretty good (Northshore or Kenner, the one on David just isn't as good). Drago's blows them both away but its much more expensive.

Middendorf's is good. Another option-Spahr's Seafood, Hwy 90 west about 2 miles west of Des Allemands, less than 1/2 hour from NO
