On Monday September 7, 2009 at approximately 2:45am deputies with the Lafayette Parish Sheriff's Office responded to a rape call in the 600 Block of Lajaunie Road. Upon arrival deputies spoke with the victim a 47 year old female who advised she was walking near the 4 corners area when a black male in a gold Ford Expedition offered her a ride home. She stated she felt safe because there were three children in the vehicle with the driver. After the victim entered the vehicle the suspect drove to Lejaunie road and raped her inside and outside the vehicle then later threw her out. The victim was transported to a medical facility for treatment.
Deputies began a search of the area and located the suspect in his vehicle back on Lejaunie Road; he was also in the process of raping a second female. The suspect 35 year old Harold James Washington Jr. was taken into custody by deputies. Also in the vehicle were the suspects three children ages 9, 7, and 4. The children were witnesses to both crimes and have been taken into custody by the Office of Child Services.
The second victim a 48 year old female advised she was on Simcoe Street when the suspect offered her a ride home. She also stated she felt safe because there were children in the vehicle. The suspect then drove her to Lejaunie Road and began to rape her until deputies intervened.
Harold James Washington Jr. has been arrested and charged with (2cts) Forcible Rape, (2cts) Oral Sexual Battery and (6cts) counts of Indecent Behavior with a Juvenile. No bond has been set.
