My tin foil hat says gubment mind control. But it's reception is sometimes a little fuzzy.

there will not ever be a clear cut explanation for evil.

There's no explaining the things PTSD will make some people do. Going off the news story, I would venture that something about the range (smell, sound, image, whatever) pushed him beyond what he was prepared for. As much as I would love to uncover a government conspiracy, I think this is simply a case of "**** happens".

He took a guy with PTSD, handed him a gun, and took him to a place that was incredibly likely to trigger his PTSD. I don't know what the mystery is.

Very sad and tragic, but this is probably the best explanation. The dude had a melt down. I would go out on a limb and say that they were not fully aware of his history. They obviously knew, but I want to believe they did not know the full extent of the situation.

The mystery is how PTSD works. I know people with it, I have total trust in many of them with a firearm. He was out there trying to help people, and he was murdered. It's tragic and we will never know all the answers. Many have admitted that shooting at paper targets works well as therapy, as it helps them seperate the concept that every trigger pull is tearing flesh and taking life. They relearn the childhood enjoyment that is shooting at cans and stuff like that without ever thinking about using a gun to kill.

Was Kyle working within an established rehab program or was he doing this on his own?

I have been bothered by people shooting alongside me at Precision. They try to keep guns out of the hands of crazy people for just this reason.

Well damn, if that is really what the OP was asking, he is in the wrong place big time. I think the biggest lesson here is treating mentally ill people should be done by experts.

I can't say I know for a fact, but I really doubt there is an established rehab program anywhere involving handing guns to severely mentally I'll people.
