What's the point in doing that?

There probably is no point. It could be for a number of reasons; most likely it's the result of consultants in the news business. Instead of having two people standing next to each other in one picture, the consultants say to do the 2 box presentation so that the screen image will change frequently. It's a theory that changing the image frequently keeps people from zapping the channel. Sometimes they'll even be in the same studio and do this type of presentation.

By the way, I think they ARE doing it via satellite; each one of them has their own uplink truck and is listening on an earpiece; there's even a delay for the time it takes the signal to go up into space and back down.
