Computer/youtube gurus Question

Is there a way to take a youtube video and save it to mp4/avi/mkv, etc... so that I could put it on a flash drive andf play it on my bluray player? My bluray player plays all these formats by the way.

I use Firefox and there is a plugin called Download Helper. It sorta keeps an eye out for videos and stuff like that on web pages, when you click the little arrow on the side of it, you can choose how to save it. For instance on Youtube, there is usually 3 different files, or vid formats that you can save the video as.
