Kinda oddball question, but I am going fishing this weekend and I was wondering if there were any specific laws or circumstances involving carrying a firearm either concealed or open in a boat?

Is it an extension of your home like your car?

Are their LDWF laws that kick in when you get on a boat?

I saw nothing about boats in the State Police CHP info.

    Thanks

Without a permit, it is illegal to conceal a weapon on your person in the state of Louisiana.

Thanks. I got that from the other threads. i am just wondering if even with a permit there are any special laws that come into play once you are in a boat on the water.

Had this conversation a couple years ago. I want to say that passed something where you could conceal on your boat. All the years before that it was illegal and I didnt know it. I do not know the rules on the CHP though. The info I found was on the wildlife and fisheries page and pertained to management areas.

no laws against carrying on your boat. It used to be illegal to be in WMAs with it, but that was changed.

    The RS for the above.

LA RS 56:1691 (Possession of firearms on WMAs and State lands)
    §1691. Possession of firearms

A person who lawfully possesses a firearm may possess or transport such firearm within the boundaries of a state park, state historic site, state preservation area, wildlife management area, or wildlife refuge.
    Acts 2010, No. 790, §1

    Thanks. That helps a lot.

Is there a point if you are heading offshore where boundaries change and the laws do too?

    Anything about international waters?

as long as its not on a "commercial" vessel you are gtg. use caution tho as many charter/head boats are registered with the uscg as commercial, and you will fall under uscg regs.
