I have a young friend of around 30 years old who told his wife that he had held a gun to his head and it was on safety, therefore, thankfully, did not fire. He asked his wife for help and she immediately called me, as I a am parent figure to her. I told her to bring him to a local hospital where he was admitted voluntarily. The hospital transported him to a mental facility. He has no criminal background. He does not use drugs, nor does he drink. He has never been in a mental facility. Will his gun collection be confiscated as a result of this?

Had a family member many years ago in Jeff Parish had some issues. Family relocated weapons till the situation was resolved. No issues about taking weapons away. But a weapon was not used in a threatening way or as a way of inflicting personal harm. We just removed the guns just in case.

There is a conflict here . You say the hospital transferred him to a mental facility then u say he has never been in a mental facility. What is it?

You being like a parental fiqure to her, I would store those for them until the right time!

I was in a similar position and removed the guns and ammo from the household, stored them safely, and returned them when it was appropriate. I would also notify the police that you have removed the weapons. They will be thankful. Regret is something you don't want to live with.

No conflict. Go reread it. Personally; I would NOT notify anyone about the removal of guns; might just cause issues. He now has no access to the guns. That's all ANYONE needs to know. " they gifted them" to you before any of this happened.

If the police are not involved yet, I would not involve them at this point.

If you store the firearms, the answer to any inquiry by any authority is that he does not possess any firearms. I would have the wife give you a note authorizing you to have the firearms until his doctor says he is no longer a danger to himself or others.

Do NOT involved the police, prior to removing the guns.. They might very well do it for you..
If you have permission, take them and secure them until said person is better. ( your own time line)
If the said person answers the paperwork to buy a new gun, Be damn sure to practice what answers to put.. remind him, adjudicated is from a judge, not a coroner.

I would seek Legal Advice from a well qualified Attorney.

This x1000. Having something firmly in writing dictating why you are possessing the items in question would be a great way to CYA.
