This one happened yesterday to my son, Ryan. Some of you have met Ryan, and others have seen him on our TV shows.

Ryan was pulled over by a police officer yesterday in Mandeville. Expired license plate. He had moved, and he guesses the renewal notice didn't get forwarded.

Ryan hands the officer his driver's license and carry permit, and says he is carrying. Officer asks if there are any other guns in the truck. Yes, two in the console.

Okay, says the officer. Just don't touch the guns and we'll be okay.

Officer notes that the inspection sticker is expired too. (Hey, we're traveling all the time these days -- or at least, that's my story).

Officer says, "You WERE on your way to get this sticker renewed, right?"

Of course he was. Officer says that he'll have to issue the citation for the license plate, but if Ryan will get it taken care of immediately (which he did within the hour), he might catch a break on the fine.

As he ended, the officer said, "And thanks for carrying."

    A fine ending.

TV show? Sorry but I would like to check it out. Time and channel?

Both are "on hiatus" right now. The season begins again in July. In July they run on the Pursuit Channel (Dish and Direct TV). Gun Talk starts on Sportsman Channel in July. In August, both shows run on NBC Sports Network. Counting Wild TV (Canada) we're on four networks with gun shows.

We have put some of the Gun Talk TV shows on Youtube.

Also, about 800 videos at www.guntalk.tv

Just something to do in our spare time. ;)

    Awesome,

Had a similar experience. A Detective for BRPD passed by our house when he saw a white truck parked in front of our home and on the curb. He stopped to investigate as a white p/u had been used in two home invasions earlier in the week. He encountered my 20 year old son who was in the front yard (who owns the truck), and inquired who he was. My son stated he lived here, the Det stayed back and asked my son to have someone come out to identify him.

My son knocked on the door and asked me to come out and speak to the police. When I stepped out, I announced that I was armed and was the home owner. Finally to the point here, he stated that it was good that I was armed and suggested to be vigilant with that practice. He then gave some details on the crimes that occurred within 4 blocks of my home.

Don't get to hear all the good things our LEO's do for us. Guys like these are truly public servants.

Ryan's Grandfather was a well-known and highly respected fellow here and around the World.

Perhaps the officer recognized the surname and was just doing "Grandad G.G." a favor.............

Great story, Tom. Thanks for sharing it.
By the way.... I just finished listening to the podcast for this weeks' show. Awesome show as always. You and Mark Walters are about the best things on the radio these days. I entered to win the Liberty safe too. Hope I win that. I have a place for it in a corner of my living room.

i would say since ive been carrying (august 2009) ive been pulled over 20-25 times...half of cops take it easy and the others react fully within their capacity...the whole get out of the car and pat down deal...then the other half just say dont worry about it and write the ticket....

I feel like my CHP has cut me great slack in many encounters. I've never been regarded in a negative way since getting it. Or at least... more negative than I had coming to me! :D I've been treated fairly at worse, and graciously/generously at best. It's a change from before I got my CHP.

There may be other factors, such as age, and maybe behavior since getting my CHP, but it seems to boil down to having that CHP.
