Court filing?

Someone I know is a notary and she says that a trust needs to be filed in court to be valid. Any truth to this?

Nope. I wouldn't use that person for a trust.

Yep I think the only reason a trust would need to be filed is if there is real property in it. Definitely don't need to file it for nfa stuff.
