    NOLA/Northshore!
    https://www.usajobs.gov/GetJob/ViewDetails/340829700

The position WILL close early, if they receive enough applicants!!! Don't wait if you're thinking about doing this.

If you have any of the following, you can qualify:

4 year degree/four years of college; 3 years of experience in a cargo environment or law enforcement; a combination of both. Read the "who can apply" section.

    Have to be UNDER 37 years of age, unless you are a veteran;

Position has a journey level of GS12 automatically. Pay shown on the link is STARTING. You get automatic advancement from GS 5/7 to 9/11/12 each year until you get to the full level of the position.

OT is available and the rate is double time. Here in NOLA that is about $65 per hour at full performance level.

Requires a Background check and Polygraph. This is a uniformed Federal Officer position.

Questions here if you have them, I will do my best to explain/help you with them.

I friend of mine recently retired from Immigrations after 32 years.

The pay keeps going up and it seems like there is always OT available.

I suggest any of you younger LEOs that is considering a change to check this out.
This is an excellent way to for someone to get their foot in the door of Fed law enforcement.

I applied. Testing 8/31 in ATL.

    Good deal!

Guys who are veterans - if you are drawing disability, you still may be able to get hired if you can do the full range of duty required. This is just a general statement towards all vets, I just thought about it and did not mention it initially.

Give me a shout if there are any questions or if I can help.

Agreed. It's not super duper tactical though. A lot of local LE get bored quick. At some point in your career in LE you either choose quality of life/Pay or adrenaline. Few jobs have both. I was local before going fed. Only thing I would have changed if I could would have been to just go straight to the feds and skip the locals, but hind sight..... ;)

Average pay with shift diff, sun/holiday pay and OT in NOLA is about 85k for journey level officers. In ATL it's easily over 100k.

Keep in mind that you may have to move if you want the job. I moved to Georgia for nine years before I was able to transfer back to NOLA. Job IS UNION.

Well you'll get some of that. The training is not bad for sure, and I'm certain you'll have something you can add too it later on. ;)

Many years ago, my buddy tried to get me to go with Immigrations when they had an opening.

But I was happy where I was and had already gotten some rank.

Now that we are both retired, his pension is twice what mine is.

    Hindsight is 20/20.

Any idea how often it opens up and how far out you can apply? I'm tied up for about two more years if nothing changes.

Process takes a long time. First time in 3 years it's been open...... Better off applying now. If in the military, they will coordinate with you. Bottom line is go through the process. If you pass, then they have spent a lot of money on you already, they'll wait a few months longer.

GS 05-07 seems low though...right? :dunno:

Not if you are just starting out.

That would be like a hamburger flipper at McDonald's wanting $15 an hour.

Maybe I don't have the right to comment.
It would appear so from some of the comments.

I guess actually going out with my buddy to see what he did doesn't count.
I guess going along for the stowaway on a cruise liner doesn't count.

I guess by the same token, he can't comment on what I did even though I took him on raids with me.......

Watch it. Real life experience means nothing here. Repeating something you heard someone else say coupled with a high post count carries much more weight than experience.
