Hi all, new to this board (and nice to find a local one). I recently jumped on the CZ 82 surplus bandwagon, grabbing several from JG sales. One of these was for a young lady, who'd never shot before and is quite small (5'2", 95 lbs). I felt like this was about the most gun she'd be able to comfortably shoot.
I'm fine with the 9x18 caliber since I already had a FEG PA 63, with a black anodized frame (and no I didn't even think of letting her try that, I prefer to not scare new shooters off! anyone who's shot the PA 63 knows what I mean).
Anyway, we grabbed the gun and went to Precision yesterday, with a few boxes of Brown Bear FMJ and Silver Bear HP. I put the sillouette target out to 25 ft, went over basics again (she knows safety), and let her fire off a mag to get comfortable. I was impressed, and it reinforced my already good opinion of the gun's pointing ability.
She aimed (pointed, really) dead center at the bull. 1st shot (ever, other than a 22) hit about at the right clavicle, and she gave a 'WTF?'. I reminded her to squeeze, not pull. next 5 she put within the 9 ring, all slightly at 2 o'clock, with about a 3" group. We did about 3 mags nice and steady, and her point of impact stayed the same with the FMJ, with no complaint of recoil at all. I had her fire off a mag rapidly at 25 ft and she put 9 over what would be the left lung at about 5" group (one miss near the left ear, and disturbingly the other 2 went low to what I best describe as the zipper:eek3:). Took about 3-4 sec for her to put 12 rounds out.
She felt like there was some extra kick to the HP, and preferred the FMJ. My thought was if she's comfy with the FMJ and shoots it that well, a full mag will be plenty enough.
I also shot it, and found the gun to be a joy. minimal recoil, very accurate, and well-built- it points great, you're on the target naturally.
Anyway, Hi again to everybody! Dave
