I don't hear much any more of people drying shrimp. Those little packets hanging around registers in stores cost an arm and a leg.

Lately I've been drying shrimp just about every weekend, weather permitting of course. When I buy fishing bait I usually buy extra to bring home and boil and eat some and dry the rest.

Drying shrimp is a great way to preserve them if things go bellyup and also make the best gumbos.

There's nothing like eating dried shrimp and chasing them down with a cold one! ;)

Do any of you dry your own shrimp?

Had some made in a food dehydrator (like for making jerky) before .....they really weren't that bad.

I have honestly never had the urge to try them.

Are they cooked prior to drying? Do you season them or anything?

I simply boil the shrimp and add my seasonings like I would do for any seafood I'd boil to eat like crabs or crawfish. Then for the next two days I just let the sun do its job drying them.
