This is for .40 s&w. I load my bullets a little long out to 1.170. The bullets won't fit all the way into the gauge. It apparently checks for oal also. Is this good enough or do I need to "drill out" the shoulders?

Gauges do check OAL but only when loaded to SAMI specs. With straight wall rimless cases, such as 40S&W, the case shuold be able to be inserted backwards (rim first). Only the bullet should be exposed when inserted.
