I picked up a Remington 700 varmint 308 with a Hogue overmolded stock, has Leupold rings and scope base. Scope is Pine Ridge 6-18 tactical scope. Has 6-9" bipod. I know the scope is not the best but would I be able to shoot at the matches?

I ordered a few boxes of Federal 308 Win, 168gr, Sierra MatchKing Boat Tail Hollow Points also.

Had a great time today. The winds as always made things interesting. I want to give a big thanks to Ted (Ritten), Rick (chaser2020), and Lanny (xmeister). Everything went great and safe. Look forward to next month.

Rick, Ted, and Lanny -- I echo this! Had a great time. Thanks for putting this match together, and thanks for all the help with us newbies!

If the scope has at least 17-18 minutes of elevation left to come up from your 100yd zero it should work. For shooting at 600 you might want to see if your gun likes the 175gr Match Kings as well. They buck the wind MUCH better than the 168's. Both Federal and Black Hills makes match grade ammo that uses the 175 SMK's.

" The guys shooting blind magazines seemed to feel the restriction of not being able to load and shoot as fast and those who were pushing AR's and DBM bolt actions were able to concentrate on wind and changing conditions more."

Who would have ever thunk it?

You were right man. Still, I shot the match using two 5 round mags and one 10 round mag. I still had three magazine changes in a given string (22 shots) and managed to come in first in the "No rear rest" division WITHOUT a shooting glove and only 8 points behind the match winner who was shooting a .260ai with a rear rest. Somebody shooting a blind mag .308 would have a five round capacity and only have one extra magazine fill.

I shot a AR, so I don't have first hand knowledge, but I think whats most important is the guy pulling the target, I felt more pressure in the pits than on the line, my goal was to get that target down and up as fast as possible to aid the shooter, having a mag fed gun is faster, but giving the choice, internal mag and fast puller, or drop mag and slow pit man, I'll pick internal mag

I was looking a the pictures and it looks like all of the rifles would qualify for a standard F Class match. I expected more brakes.

There were 3 shooting with brakes. 2 others had to cancel. There was one .260 Ackley. I am not sure of the calibers of all of the rest.
