    Mid-Range Prone/F-Class Match on Saturday July 7, 2012

42 shooters were on the line for what has been come to be called the “Firecracker 600.” The competition made the name most fitting as one competitor missed equaling a National and Range Record by one X in F-Open and a new range record was set in F-T/R.

There were 10 Prone shooters, 15 F-Open shooters and 17 F-TR shooters that had a chance to have some of the mildest wind conditions for 3 strings in recent memory.

After a long hiatus, Buck Kliebert made the match and lead the Prone shooters with a very nice 590-24X. Glad to see you back out there, Buck. First Place in the High Master/Master Unclassified went to Gary Henry with a 576-30x. Warren Freeman took top honors in the Expert/Sharpshooter group with a 575-17X.

On the F-Open side, Jim Suber came out of the blocks with a 200-17X on his first string. He only needed one more X to have tied John Brewer for the Range Record. 200-18X is also a National record set by John at the 2011 Regional. Jim never let up and came away the winner with a 595-37X. Great shooting Jim! Joey Clark was right on Jim’s heels posting a 594-30X to take 1st in High Master. In the Master/Master Unclassified Bob Lundholm held off Gerald Boudreaux by one point to take first place with a 594-27X. Gerald shot a very good 593-32X to take 2nd Place. In the Expert/Sharpshooter/Marksman group Howard Mahute took 1st place with a 588-26X.

In F-TR, C.J. Britt dropped one point on his first shot for record and never dropped another point, posting a range record 200-11X on his second string and an overall new range record of 599-30X. The old string record was 199-11x, which C.J. just set recently at the 2012 Regionals. The previous 600 aggregate record was 590-26X, set by Dakota Murphy at the 2011 Regionals. Of course, C.J. took the overall F-TR win!
In the Master/Master Unclassified another of the Mahute clan, up from Florida, Howie Mahute took 1st place with 591-21X and new shooter Tony Acrement took 2nd Place with a 576-12X. In the Expert/Sharpshooter/Marksman group, Craig Decoteau took 1st place with a 577-11X.

As you can see there was some outstanding scores turned in my some really good shooters today!

    Reminders-
The state match is scheduled for October 6-7.

As you all know, getting the range ready before the match each month is a job bigger than the three of us can handle. We are asking if a few of you folks might show up around 7:30 AM and help us get the flags and targets set up. Otherwise, we will have to wait until the start of the match and let the first group that goes down get the targets out, refaced and set up.

    See you next month.

    Sure wish I was Closer

I sure do wish I lived closer!

I am in North La about 60 miles above Alexandria, I wish there were some F-Class shoots in my area. I am currently in the process of getting 2 guns set up to shoot some local Benchrest matches. My set-up would easily allow me to also shoot in F-Class. Both my rifles are based on the Savage Target Actions, one is a custom build using that action and the other is a LRPV with factory barrel, and I also have an F-Class stock for one of these.

I must say you folks have an awesome set-up, who knows maybe I can make a trip there one of these days.

Had a good time shooting this past weekend. At least I was hitting paper this time, i've watched/worked a few matches before this one and was really excited to see improvement in my shooting and finally seeing my loads heading down range and scoring decently.

Looking forward to cleaning up my fundamentals and constantly improving my scores. If i didn't have a CCW renewal class this weekend, i'd be out there for the FPR match. Looking forward to making as many as i can fit in my schedule for the foreseeable future.
