So I created a blog. I deleted facebook a couple weeks ago because there was nothing interesting happening on it and other than showing off pictures of my kids, I didn't do much.

Let me know what you all think:

    Here.

Cool. And look! there's the subject that I love to talk about. :D

But the hygiene area is slightly lacking. There are oral contraceptives now that allow a woman to prevent her period for months at a time. The problem is, it's a daily medication. That is a genderless issue in itself. So theoretically hygiene doesn't necessarily have to be an issue, but the suggested use prevents her from going longer than three months without having one. So iow: she has four periods in one years time.

Men's health actually does relate to the discussion however. In another generation perhaps it won't be as much of an issue, but in uncircumcised males the lack of hygiene creates the build up of human papillomavirus. HPV contributes to the development of cervical cancer in young women. There is a vaccine for it now, however many young twenty year old women have not had it because it's a fairly new vaccine. In a time where A) vaccines are under fire and are being questioned, not every parent is opting for additional inoculations for their child. and B) those same parents are opting not to circumcise just because that's the social norm. The circ'd to uncirc'd ratio is changing. So you have a prime mixture in a combat zone IF sexual relationships exist to create even a larger health scare for women.

Just throwing that out there. ;)

My wifes on that type of oral contraceptive. She hates it, says it cause her to "spot" a lot. Not actual periods though. I think it makes her bitchier too.

Just throwing that out there. ;) Personally I disagree but the reasons have merit. I know many who have been in the field agree with your sentiments. Since I have not been in that situation, nor seen the reality of men and women in a combat zone, I don't disagree too strongly.

My disagreement is this: The people I know, speak to, and listen to as they share their time in Afghanistan in particular; they go out for a few days and then they're back at base within the week. To me, I still consider them in a combat zone. I'm not quite sure why females shouldn't be at a base camp or drive support vehicles when they're in the field, escorting or whatever. 50 years ago when the base camps were probably much less civilized than they seem to be now, I fully agree your opinion is spot on. Today: I'm waffling over those particular reasons.

I remember VG posted on the subject. He has been the closest one to sway me in thinking he's absolutely correct. Except for the hygiene part, only because most men don't realize women don't have to have periods anymore if they don't want to, and there are contraceptives successfully marketed for that exact reason. :)

A woman's period wasn't all I was eluding to. A woman won't feel "clean" after a single day... no add 30-60 days and you run a risk of serious infection. They would require to at least carry sanitary wipes with them to use every couple days which is adding weight to the pack that is already (likely) too heavy for them.

But like I said at the end, if a woman can pass the same standards as the men are required to, they should be granted the same jobs and duties. But the idea that they're held to a separate standard and allowed to do the same work is childish.

An example: two kids take an IQ test. One child is a genius and is placed in a school for the intellectually gifted; the other scores average, but because of pressure for equal treatment, he is put in the same school where he can't hope to perform as well. Thus, he is held to a lower standard under the guise of "equality" when it is actually anything but.

There should be no male standards and female standards. There should simply be "Job" standards. If you fulfill the standards, you can do the job. Penises and vaginas need not apply.

Edited. It worked when I first put it up, but not when I checked it after. Should be good now.

Wow I'm not used to seeing a blog that's not littered with affiliate links

Yup. Yasmin was the first to offer that "freedom". I haven't heard of a single woman who had a good time on Yasmin.

Personally, I agree your wife is probably bitchier. The bitchier part makes sense. It screws with your hormones moreso than normal oral contraceptives. I'm not usually a green earth chick but in this case, a woman is best to let things move naturally. Suppress the hormones, you're asking for trouble.

But the medical ability to prevent periods IS possible, which was my point. It's not a perfect argument against women in combat. It's a very good one but not an entirely complete argument.

Oh I know. I'm not busting your chops. I happen to agree hygiene is a serious issue. That's not why I disagree with ya'll. But at the same time, more children are growing up uncircumcised and you will find men with the exact same issues. You got to keep your junk clean if you have a foreskin. Same thing: sanitary wipes.

As to your last statement. Absolutely. I agree with same standards completely. :)

I agree Cat, at some point we have to give the Creator some credit. It's set up that way for a reason. I'm going to take this opportunity to remember a lesson I just learned and keep my opinions of women in combat to myself.

You wouldn't hurt my feelings if you say we don't belong. ;)

Sorry Sugarbug. I've been pretty good at this lately, derailing a thread without intent. I'll hush now. ;)

Just because all people are equal, it doesn't mean they are all the same.

A distinction most fail to grasp.

What other good topics should I write about. Gun control is an obvious one, but is pretty much a hot-button topic for me so I'm trying not to turn the blog into a total rant. Thoughts? I was thinking over-taxation for the wealthy (where "the great contradiction" came from). I wanted to cite the fact that the "wealthy" are unequally taxed; as though it is a punishment for being successful. Isn't being successful the American dream?

Copy/paste is not difficult. Why is wordpress better? I just used blogspot because my wife told me about it.

Wordpress is THE standard. I'd be surprised if the others are still around in a couple years.

It's also super easy to use and there's lots of cool plugins and customization options.

You could do one on Les Miles and the fact that people are ready to burn him despite LSU being in a golden era of football.

I will give that a look. Do you have a blog, Speed?

Admittedly, I know next to nothing about sports. I have neither the desire nor the time to follow it. Don't want to talk about anything I have real knowledge of.

However, that idea did make me think of the whole Petraeus "scandal." How him having a mistress seems to have undone everything we actually paid him to do.
