I also have a Taurus pt1911 and a few other 1911s. The Taurus lacks the fit & finish of a Dan Wesson, kimber or a STI but it hits where, I point, and fires reliably. From what I read change, the ambi safety before it breaks. I replaced mine with a Wilson unit.
Took it to the range, bright sunshine, hardly any wind, about 90 degrees out. Was running various makes of commercial .45 including round nose, SWC, and hp bullets. Used many and various makes of magazines including some cheap $7 gunshow no name mags.
Unit was faultless with all magazines and bullet types. Did not have one single misfeed or failure to fire. Accuracy was very acceptable even though I wasn't really shooting that well that day. (As verified by firing many other pistols that day). About my only complaint was the three dot front sight was a little hard to see when I was shooting pretty much directly into the sun's rays. Still. it showed up better than the usual skinny front post as in my other 1911 .45. It was throwing all the brass pretty much into a tight 5 foot circle.
I think I'm going to replace that front sight with a fiber optic pipe front sight.
