First fish of the day

Another fine early morning on the Kenai River. This is the wifes first rainbow of the day. The guide service was Drifters Lodge out of Cooper Landing AK, someone we've used on other occasions. They are great to fish with and really know their business.

That is a perfect rainbow. I used to live in Washington state and was able to catch them all the time, great eating as well. One of these days I will have to take a trip up there.

Some of my favorite memories were trout fishing in West Virginia. I've tried other species but they can't compare to the excitement of landing a native brook trout

She doesn't need to be told, but it is a hoot to watch her slay those fish. We both struck out on silver salmon fishing on the Yentna River, but then we were more interested in just running the river.

Might of been a little early for Silvers which run the best, late Aug, early Sept (in the rivers)

Actually the silvers we found; which were pretty thick, had started to look about as skanky as the US Secretary of State.

Alaska is a beautiful place, I have been the twice halibut fishing in Ninilchik, just down the road from Coopers landing.

That's fine rack of 'but you caught, best size for eating too. Fishing for halibut out of Ninilchik is a blast especially when launching through the surf.
