I was prescribed fish oil at first to lower my cholesterol, then when the OTC OIL didnt work they gave me a script for some pure fish oil.. damn **** was expensive..

I was taking the equivalent of 12 OTC pills a day.. it just raised my cholesterol..

DR said, it has been proven to help you if you are on it and have a heart attack with being able to live through it..

Also said it was proven to help with minor things I didnt commit to memory..

I am on a statin now.

I take 3 a day, every day. My cholesterol is looking good and my doc is happy. As far as my joints go, I would sure hope it helps cause I couldn't stand them being any worse!

I, too, was prescribed fish oil for my heart, but it was EXPENSIVE! I asked doc if I can just eat a lotta fish instead since I'm on food stamps. "Yup!" He said. So I eat fish! And lots of it! And contrary to the belief of a certain Guatamalan... FISH IS DELICIOUS!!!

We got a BIG bottle (400) of fish oil for $8.99 the other day! It isn't bad if ya catch it on sale. We normally buy mail order from Puritian's Pride. You can get good deals from them too.

You have to pay attention to the labels. Some of those pills are sold as 1,000 mg of fish oil, but only contain 120 mg of DHA and 180 mg of EPA.

Carlson Fish Oil, 1 Tsp has 800 mg EPA & 500 mg DHA. Just stocked up; I found the 500 ml bottles online for about $25 per bottle, 100 servings. High quality and no taste.

This is typical of a lot of vitamins/supplements.

I give my bassets glucosamine. The 2,000mg dose advertised on the front of the bottle is with two capsules.

I noticed the disparity between what you think you are getting with fish oils and what you are actually getting.

What happened to cod liver oil?

Carlson makes a Cod Liver Oil that's good too. Has additional vitamins, specifically Vitamin D. So if you don't spend much time outside, say in the winter, switch to Cod Liver and make up for the Vitamin D that your body would normally produce from exposure to the sun.

Cod liver oil is what we were brought up on and considering the abuse iv'e put my body through over the yrs I have no problem giving some credit to the oil, a daily dose of VIROL, a cheese and MARMITE sandwhich every now and again for getting me this far.
A spoonfull of honey every morning is also high on the list.
.....considering life came from the ocean though, fish oil should'nt be much of a surprise.
