Considering a new semi-auto, just wanted to get some opinions on caliber.
.40 S&W v/s .45 acp. Just looking for general likes and dislikes of these 2, or opinions that may help make a decision a little easier.
I know shooting them is best, ( my prior experience is mainly with 9mm).
Pistol will be used for plinking and possibly for matches in future. will probably reload ammo.
    Thanks in advance.

I find the 45 the better generally of the two. 40 tends to be too "Snappy" in most frames. Or the size/capacity ration, if you are gonna move from 9mm, you just as soon go to the 45.

    My opinion. I own all 3. I carry 9 and 45.

I prefer the .45 over the .40. Like was said above, the .40 (XD40 anyway) has a very snappy recoil, where as my XD 45 just has more of a push type of recoil. Much faster recovery time with the .45 in my opinion.

I agree with Nolacop...The .40 does have a very Snappy or 357 Magnum type of muzzle flip that the .45 doesn't have.

I've tried several .40's and just don't like them at all. You have to get a lot of quality trigger time to get used to one....But I've seen people that buy nothing but .40's and love them.

My choice is the .45 in this poll..!

    .45 > .40

The only real advantage that .40 has over .45 is capacity, and with plenty of modern double stack .45s available, that advantage has been mostly made moot.
