Hi all. I have a problem with my .22. Until last week, I haven't shot this gun in about 30 years. Decided it was time. Cleaned it and went to the range.
The gun shoots fine. Except..... The front sight is loose. It looks like there's a screw on top that holds it in place. Is this a set screw? Is there a hole in the barrel? Threaded? It looks pretty rusted, so it's soaking now. Also have to find my small allen wrenches. If it's just a set screw, I'll probably destrot it getting it out. Anyone know the size offhand?
I'm thinking I'll get a scope, but still want the sights to be accurate.
    Thanks for any help,
    DW

As an afterthought, I read the year of manufacture was first 2 digits of serial# subtracted from 2k. Is that right? Mine starts with 72. I bought it used in about '75.

Looking at that, the front sight is different. Mine is like a figure 8, going around the barrel and the ammo tube. I couldn't find a diagram showing it when I looked. Plus, I don't know where to look. thanks for the reply though.

Update: I got the screw out. It looks fine, no rust, don't think I tore up the hex hole. It screws in the sight, then just pushes against the barrel to hold in place. It's back together waiting to check if it's in the right spot. Thanks again for the help.

You might also want to check the buffer. It's a white plastic part that does get brittle with age and use.
My oldest of 3 Marlin Mod 60s had one to shatter the other day, just waiting now for them to come off back order.

Supposedly the black buffers from Numrich are tougher than the OEM's. My M60 is only a few months old so I don't have 1st hand experience with the aftermarket one.
