The metal insert on the front makes them serviceable in any future ambidextrous models that they could release in the future, like the G21sf. The first ones to get it were the new 21sf mags, and I've seen them on the new 17 and 19 mags also.

I also just got some G22 mags from botach and they didn't have the metal insert. I'm guessing they just haven't produced any yet or have no plans for an ambi .40 (but I doubt that). Also new G18 mags don't have it, either.

If you order new magazines from any major outlet, they should have the metal insert on the front unless they just have a lot of old stock sitting around.

The new style mags are available for the G22. I have some.
