i polished all my internals on my XD, Made it ALOT smoother. A little 280 grit paper to get the finish off, dremmel, buffer wheel and some polish and you can work wonders

I personally wouldnt use sandpaper, but just jewelers rouge and a dremel with a polishing/buffing wheel, thats what I did to my glock barrel and it worked great, and didnt harm the tennifer.

from my understanding of the process. the metal is not coated with the material it actually bonds with it to prevent the metal from undergoing a reduction rxn. so if you take a layer off it's not gonna affect it what so ever. from what i read the barrel may rust since it doesn't go through the process. but all you have to do is make sure you keep it oiled every two wks or so.

Exactly. I actually used a very light wire wheel with my Dremel to get most of the bluing off a little quicker, but mostly just a couple polishing wheels and rouge. And a lot of patience. The combo of the Don's guide rod and polished barrel makes the XD look awesome. Definitely looks like a much more expensive pistol.

I also buffed all the internals lightly and polished the feed ramp. Never had any problems with rust, as mentioned just keep a thin layer of oil or CLP on it.

A Beretta 92FS and a Springfield Armory XD-9 Service. I actually like how both feels pretty equally, though the XD fits my girlfriend's hands much better, so she's claimed that one as hers... ;)
