He might have been just detained, and he had a unsecured dog that would bite. I would have shot it too.

I don't think they should have shot his dog. Pepper spraying it would have worked quite well. Also, they could have even asked the guy to secure his dog before detaining him for questioning. I will agree that he was being stupid recording them, but I think the dog coming out to protect its owner is natural and they were out of line in shooting it when less than lethal options would have worked. Hell...I bet a taser would have worked on it.

So what happened is the guy pulled up with music blaring out of his car (a misdemeanor right there) and started antagonizing the cops by yelling "Why no black cops here?". So the cops detain him lawfully because he is threatening their major crime scene and the dog rushes the cops very aggressively. Cops shoot to avoid getting bitten. I feel sorry for the dog but it was the dog owner's fault.

I have been charged by a pitbull and luckily it was stopped by a chain. I did point my gun at the dog and would have fired to prevent being hurt. I know a gun will work. Pulling my gun out of the holster was instinctive; some dogs are scary. I like dogs but in this case, I put my safety first.
