    Hey guys,
I have been checking out these HKP7's and find myself liking them enough to think about getting one:). I am not sure of the different variants. I would like to know what variants have the mag release on the side like the American handguns.
    Thanks
    Dustin

I'm not the expert, but I can tell you that the P7M8 has the "american" style mag release.

I'm pretty sure that the P7M13, which has a 13 round capacity, also has that style mag release.

The P7PSPs are the traditional, or European style heel mag release.

There are several other variations of P7s, but those are rarer and not likely to be an issue.

Photo of P7M8. The mag release is behind the trigger:

On a PSP the mag release is where the lanyard loop is.

The PSP release is easy to train for...if you are right handed..when mag is empty pronate right wrist 30 degrees or so outboard and this places the release at the natural tip of left thumb, press lever and mag drops free, do your best speedload, squeeze grip and you are ready to go!

It's easy to tell. The heel release versions are the cheap ones. The american release versions are the expensive ones. :)

I have both and have trained extensively with both. The American release version is just a touch faster on reloads when the gun is empty. It's about the same if doing tac reloads. I carry the American release version usually (the P7m8). Occasionally the mag release will catch on something and pop my mag out (like maybe once a year). That never happened on the PSP and probably couldn't happen by design.
