Thanks for the info. My Rem 700 308 has a 1 in 10 twist and I shoot 180s in it and a Rem 40X 300 win mag I shot the 200 gr accubonds in it out to 800 yds. It also had a 1 in 10 twist. It would not suprise me if the barrel is worn out. Considering the fact how old it is. Have shot deer with the 200 gr accubond in the 40X and also took deer with a 150 gr BTHP out of my 300 Wby.

The .308 comes in both 1:10 and 1:12 twists from Remington. It depends upon the manufacturer and even the rifle. I have three .308 match rifles that are set up to handle 175 gr Sierras. One has an 1:11 and two have 1:12 barrels. They shoot heavy bullets fine. That 40x sounds like a hammer. I really like that 200 gr Accubond, but I haven't tried it in my Jarrett yet. I need to pick some up.

The 200 gr accubond shot great. I am gonna try the 180 gr accubond in my 308. I have my 308 set up for hunting and some long range shooting. I will put it out there all my rem rifles have jewell triggers set between 1-2 lbs. Rem has some of if not the worst factory triggers. I have a Rem 700 chambered in 22BR with a Krieger barrel and jewell trigger.

What brand barrel would you recommend? I have a Krieger barrels on some guns but I don't know if I want to spend that much on a gun that isn't a benchrest gun.

DZ.. actually the Sauer barrels have a different design exit on the barrel and for some reason they just dont shoot well with heavier rounds, its just something weird. Unlike other guns, weatheby comes with a shitload of freebore also.

Peter.. Barrel brand is one of those things nobodys gonna agree on,lol. Ask the gunsmith you choose who he likes to use and go that route , i went with McGowan because my guy likes than and now they are owned by a local guy right here in Baton Rouge.

I have Kreiger, Douglas, Wilson, Schneider, Hart and Jarrett barrels. I have also used Shilen and Pac-Nor. My Jarrett could use a rebarrel and I am trying to figure that out myself. I am really thinking about one of the Broughton 5R barrels. Hart, Kreiger and Schneider would be good choices too. Some of the competition shooters I know, including some AMU members, are using Satern barrels.

I know they are freebored alot. That is actually why Jarrett came up with the .300 Jarrett - to cure accuracy issues with the Weatherby cartridge. The .300 Jarrett is an 8mm Magnum case necked down to .30 and then fire formed to minimize body taper and to increase shoulder angle to 35 degrees. Although it is a wildcat, I bought one because in a pinch you can fire .300 Weatherby cartridges in it.

Don Geraci is a very good rifle smith. I would pick him over any of the other local smiths. He is a world class benchrest shooter and rifle builder. He can be a touch crochety, but he can build an accurate rifle. I don't know if he builds hunting rifles, but I don't see why he wouldn't.

Ok DZ just knows too much stuff thats his darn problem, lol. No peter , never heard of the guy.

DZ, i have a question, can you neck down a .30 to a .280 just by using a press? i did some calculations and im thinking seriously of building a 280-378 Weatherby Mag but not gonna do it if i gotta buy custom brass. If my calculations are right, it might make one hell of a caliber and the specs should be better than the .408 cheytac.

I see you shoot a .22 BR. A couple friends of mine chambered 1:6.5" Pac-Nor barrels in .22 BR shooting 90 gr very low drag bullets out to 1000 yards. I think they were getting 3100 fps with a bullet having a .580 BC. run those number in a ballistic computer and see how it holds the wind.

Thanks DZ, like I said my dad's buddy uses him to build some F-Class rifles on Bat actions. I don't see why he couldn't rebarrel it, I just have to get the barrel and bring him the gun. I would have to call him.

My 22BR doesn't have a twist rate that fast. I am shooting 55gr out of it. I got it from a buddy for varmint hunting and doing some benchrest shooting. It has a krieger barrel on it, the barrel is a sporter weight barrel set into a bedded stock with a jewel trigger. I can shoot 3/8" groups at 100 yds if I do my part.

Necking down the brass is no problem. However, depending on the neck size on the chamber reamer, you may have to turn the necks on the cases. Also, when you neck down a case, sometimes it gets a "donut" in the neck that needs to be reamed.

My dad taught Mark when he was in high school. Mark has known me since I was born. I have been trying to find time to make it out there with him to shoot the match. He is the one I got my 22 BR from.
