    Basic NRA Highpower Service Rifle Clinic

    SPONSORS: Southwest Louisiana Highpower Club and the Louisiana Shooting Association

    ELIGIBILITY: Open to adults or adult supervised mature youth. Youth, or junior, shooters must register separately prior to participation. Registration forms will be made available upon contact with the clinic director prior to the event.
    FEES: A $30 registration fee includes use of rifles, equipment and all ammunition.

    ENTRIES: It is requested that you pre-register by email prior to the date of the clinic. Please contact Danny Hudson by email at danohudson@bellsouth.net , or by telephone at 337-396-9650 for further registration information. Registration will be limited to 30 shooters on a first come, first served basis. Participants may register on the day of the clinic if space is available. Check-in and registration will commence at 7:30 AM on the day of the clinic. Instruction will begin at 8:30.

    3. You must use the main gate located on Entrance Road off of Hwy 171 to enter the post
    4. You must obtain a visitors pass at the Visitors Center adjacent to the main gate.
    5. We are only allowed to use the following route: From the main gate adjacent to the visitor’s center, continue straight on Entrance Rd. (Louisiana Ave.) until you come to Texas St. (5 red lights from gate). Turn left at the 5th light (just past Burger King) and go approx. 2.6 miles to Mill Creek Rd. Turn right and go .4 miles until you get to Range 23. This range should not be confused with Range 23A, which is the recreational range.

    FORMAT: This clinic is designed to introduce shooters to NRA Highpower competition. Participants will be instructed on rifle safety, basic rifle operation, equipment, shooting positions, scoring, match conduct, and basic to intermediate rifle marksmanship techniques in an outdoor classroom instruction format during the morning hours. Participants will then be paired with shooting coaches for familiarization firing with the AR-15 service rifle from the standing, sitting, and prone positions. All firing will be from 200 yds.     EQUIPMENT: Match prepared AR-15s and mats will be provided. In addition, ammunition will be supplied to the participants. Some jackets may be available for use, but participants should bring a field jacket or long sleeved sweat shirt if they have one. Shooters may desire to bring a work or ski glove for their non-trigger hand. Participants should also wear long pants and either lace-up shoes or boots. Participants should also bring eye and ear protection.

    PURPOSE: The purpose of this training clinic is to introduce participants to the sport of NRA Highpower rifle competition, and to learn the basic tenets of rifle marksmanship and safety. Upon completion of this training, participants will have a working knowledge and understanding of requirements and basic information that will allow them to participate in future NRA Highpower competitions.
