I am looking at purchasing a Colt AR, it is the Magpul edition, can someone familiar with these tell me how I can verify it it's a 6920 model?
    Is it simply stamped ?

    Thank you

There are hundreds of models of Colts, to verify it left Colt as a 6920 can be difficult. Now to verify it is a genuine Colt product , or assembled from Colt parts is a little easier.
Barrel will be stamped a certain marking , upper will be stamped , bolt will have marking and staking thats unique to colt. Lower will be stamped. But even in a model 6920 there are several variations depending on year.
The most common problem is someone swapping the genuine colt bolt and carrier assembly to a cheaper knock off. ( Colt bolt and carrier assembly can be as much as 200.00 )

    What he said.

6920 is just a configuration based on 16" M4 profile barrel with fixed FSB. I've seen them with all types of different furniture and factory accessories.
