ummm. yep. Just figured this one out. Went from 1mb download and never noticed how slow I was (paying for 25mb from Cox) to new stuff for $160 and consistent 18+mb download. You sir, are a screamin' demon.

I couldn't stream vids from my computer to xbox without it buffering every 5 secs with my old router. Bought a new one with 5g, not a problem.

When I lived at home my speeds were close to that (I think 25 download), using Cox high speed. I now have an apartment and am paying for cox high speed with power boost, and my wireless is 1.8 download, and 1.60 upload. Does being in an apartment make it worse? Maybe they just have a few lines run in, that are being split between a few hundred units?

with cox as with ATT's DSL it is a shared network. They will over subscribe the pipeline of bandwidth that is going to your area with the thought that not every user will be online at the same time. Probably not a router problem, but a COX is lame issue.

Should I call and complain? For what I'm paying I should be getting way better then 1 or 2 mb downloads!

calling and complaining wont do you much good, they will tell you that you are testing fine, and say that it is something on your end or you wiring. I am not too familiar with Cox, but you might be able to drop the one you are paying for down to a lesser speed with out any difference in speed but a reduced monthly bill.

I use wireless N for everyday tasks and network file streaming. When speed really matters like when playing call of duty, of course, I always direct connect my Xbox or PS3.

Would that even make a difference. Even with Wireless G routers the high end is 54mb/s. Your not even coming close to approaching that?

I am downloading at 13mb/s and uploading at 2.8mb/s I looked up the high end for my supplied cox service and it is 15 and 3 and considering I am running a wireless G router I don't even see how there could be a difference in a direct connection.

    Someone explain.....

Mine is terrible, through ATT dsl, used to be fast as hell, now my phone on 3g can download a youtube video faster.
When I called to complain they said I needed the new 2Wire router. This router was jsut fine until recently, and they of course say everything on their end is ok.
