the US intel network should have seen the writing on the wall after the 1st attack on the WTC in 1994. We should have never fought Iraq and Afghanistan as "traditional" pound and ground wars, at least not initially. The Northern Alliance was already at war with the Taliban, we could have used SF and properly funded Massoud (the northern Alliance) and surgical cruise missle &air strikes called in by CIA and SF. We would have killed MANY more bad guys and saved many of our own, we would still have problems today but i think the problems would be on a much smaller scale. We killed their leadership sporatically instead of in "groups" when we had the opportunities (they were there but the logistics of getting the lawyers to ok everything and the powers that be wanting "guarantees" took too much time) which enabled them plenty of time to selectively replace the leaders lost from 1-2 at a time which really did nothing to destroy the strucure of the organization. EVERYBODY knew this except for the ones making the decisions....Also, a well aimed cruise missle through the front door of ISI headquarters would have saved MANY US lives and put the Taliban out of business almost immediately. We could have put off Iraq for a year to see what would have happened to Al-Qaeda without leadership & support from Saudi Arabia via Pakistan. Shoulda, woulda, coulda but no joy and look where we are at today, square 1.

Different spin: The Radical Islamic Ideology has been growing since the end of WW II, gained speed when the Shah of Iran was overthrown, and really gained momentum following the collapse of the Soviet Union and the power vacuum it created. It is a radical ideology rooted in the Islamic religion. Arguably, every President from George Bush Sr. to today has failed to describe the ideology as an ongoing and growing threat devoid of any universal morality. It is a multi-generational conflict and our children will be grappling with the same threat. If you looked at the landscape back to the 1970s Iran, Iraq, Syria, and Libya regimes actively supported Islamic Radical Terrorism in the pursuit of their own agendas. If you wanted to confront Radical Islam you would need to confront these regimes. I would argue Bush II's worst mistake was using WMD as a pretext for going into Iraq. You could argue both sides on the intelligence equation but ultimately our nation needs to confront Radical Islam wherever it exists. Radical Islamic Ideology today: rape; slavery; mass executions; crucifixions; televised beheadings; televised burnings; and now organ harvesting. It is a horror show reminiscent of Hitler, Stalin, Mao, and the Bronze Age.

Bush's #1 biggest mistake was taking a hands off, lets wait and see approach...(just like slick Willie did) when he was told point blank, we have a serious problem, his name is OBL, his network spans from Sudan to Saudia Arabia he has lots of fans and $$$$..and even if we kill him now, the **** is too far out of control. I do agree with you that the wmd's was among the main reasons going into Iraq was a huge mistake Bush made, I don't think it was totally inaccurate. I personally believe as well as many authors a of books and SME's on this subject also believe that the administration was so screwed up, they themselves had no idea. There is no doubt chemical weapons were in Iraq and no doubt they could easily be verified as manufactured in the USA as well as some of our allies...Cant put that on cnn...

it seems Obama ( according to his own statements) is one of the few that doesn't know what the end game is for all Islam. Global domination and nothing else.
