we fish the heck out of jugs on the river (red river)...we will catch some small bream or goldfish/shiners and actually do well with ops and channel cats
last year a game warden actually picked up a few of our jugs that got caught up and brought them to us.
No. Jugs fall under trotline fishing which is hook and line fishing. Only a basic fishing license is required - no gear license is required.
The limit is 100 catfish of all three species (channel, blue or flathead) in any combination of legal size. Legal sizes are channel catfish - 11 inches, blue catfish - 12 inches and flathead catfish - 14 inches. Title 56 also states that a recreational angler may have, in addition to the 100 catfish limit of legal sizes, 25 undersized catfish in combination of all three species. The pamphlet interprets this to read "included in the 100 fish limit of all three species, a recreational angler may possess 25 undersized catfish of all three species". Seems to be a bad interpretation but, it probably has not been tested in court.
Don't use the pool noodles if gators are around. Set some lines out on noodles on the way out froggin one evening, came back a few hours later.....pieces of noodles every where. They weren't eating them, just chewing them up like a dog with a toy! Stick to the plastic bottles.
