[/S][/S]Anyone ever install an ambi safety on a kimber 1911? I am on the fence of buying one, but would have to install an ambi safety. Kimber sales the safety and recommends a gunsmith install... does it really take a smith?

no it shouldn't take a gun smith as long as you know how to completely disassemble the gun then it should be no problem, if you have never taken the gun apart it could be somewhat tricky there's a few minor things you need to look for when its going back together

The safety is not a drop-in part. It will require fitting. Unless you completely understand exactly what the safety does and how it does it, bring it to a smith.

i will take it to a smith if i go kimber. I'm between a kimber TLE RL II (where i would have to add a safety) or the Springfield LTWT Operator (ambi already there)... I think since santa brought my wife a 1000 dollar embroidery machine, santa is going to let me pick which one i want out..

Lets just say for instance there were a Colt, SA, and a Kimber all on a table with the exact same mods. If someone said you could walk up and take whatever one you wanted, which would you pick?

I would pick Colt for the same reason but I want an expert to tell us. :)

Not an expert but I would wear the RKI cap.

Instead of asking which one you would pick, instead ask what would the prices for those three be on that table?

All things being equal, that Colt is going to have the highest price. For a reason. When you bring those three back to sell in a year, two, or five, that Colt is going to have the highest resale value.

Here are a pair of Commanders I picked up this year:

Colt's - Over 100 years of Rock Solid Value
