I hike and mountain bike the trails at Fausse Pointe a couple of times a year. Nice trails, great canoeing, lots of skeeters in the summer. Lake Martin and the Cypress Island Preserve is right next door and definitely a place you'll want to visit.

I used to go religiously. Now it's just to tear up the bass. If you want to rack up on bream/bass/sac au lait, ask the nice people for a waterway map and head for the Barr pits.

There's a reason why that park is often booked up months in advance.
It is one of Louisiana's nicest State Parks.
Try to get a campsite at one of the Premium sites on the water - campsite #'s 28-40, 42, 44, 46, 48-50.
You can drive your boat around and tie up at the campsite.
Some of the sites even have small piers.

Thanks for the input. Going to start planning for February. Never fished that area but it sound like it would be worth bring boat. Where are the nice people with the maps. Do y'all think I need to make a reservation?

We went to lake bruin recently too, also very nice but smaller.
I now have my camping and fishing setup together so camping at parks with a lake is priority now. I have a 15bateau on a rack on top of my truck and a 2.2hp outboard and pull my camper behind. Better than trying to tandem pull my larger boat behind the camper (never tried, just considered it)

I will say that key on any of the lakes is knowing where to fish (which I dont), I had zero luck at lake bruin and almost as bad at fausse point, but always better than being at home.

The nice people with the waterway maps (canoe trails lol) are at the front gate. Usually they have intel on what the little ones are biting on.
