The "law" that prevents importation of foreign firearms is stupid and needs to be repealed! I mean, if it's not a full auto weapon, then it shouldn't be illegal. I hope the jury nullifies this idiotic persecution. I doubt that'll happen, but people need to realize that jury's can nullify cases that are unconstitutional. It's just too bad they can't nullify laws. While I'm on the soapbox, why is there a law against "new" full auto weapons? If they are registered, there shouldn't be an issue.

To answer the last question, which I'm sure is rhetorical, at least to an extent, to control the supply and in turn, control who is legally able to own one. If the supply was not limited, an M16 or M4 wouldn't cost $50k, making them more affordable to the average person.
This is very similar to how the legal system works in general. If you have $, laws, certainly up to and including misdemeanors, mostly do not apply to you.

I hope he gets a slap on the wrist. He fought for our country, got sick doing it, contributed to the gun world. I still have one of his glocks that I refuse to sell, even though I don’t carry it any more. I shoot with my backup sights in the up position because of him. I’m still not gonna forget about hunter, I’m waiting to see how that plays out. Hunters case angers me more
