Not a good as it could have been.

Fees per year are still the same. Still have to go through a requalification every five years.

And if we ever get to the constitutional carry stage, how is the state going to deal with those who forked out the $500? Refunds? Yeah right.

My wife made mention of this yesterday when I got home and I thought it sounded great.

I guess now it isn't worth the time they spent getting it passed. I was curious how it would work out with the classes and paper work maybe when I get time today I'll try to check it out unless someone has some more down time.

Looks like the big advantage is that if you can survive carrying for 20 years the permit is free. Advantage to the state is a one time bump in revenue. And if you go and die early they know they got theirs first.

I'm curious how they're going to keep track of people completing the training requirement. If I still have to submit paperwork to the state every 5 years, is the only benefit that I save money... after 20 years? That's a kind of shitty ROI.

The only advantage I see is that after 20 years, it is free for the remainder of your life. Great if you are young. However, you would still have to pay for the training every 5 years, so you aren't really saving that much money.

A young person could get approximately 11 permits at $125 each or 1 permit at $500 so they would save $875 overall.
On the average the break even point is about 45 years of age.

I think the real benefit is that it helps a State Representative who can't be bothered to teach his kids trigger discipline prove that he's pro-gun.

Whatever happened to the amendment to our constitution that removed the language allowing them to regulate concealed carry? I want to be able to carry a gun without a permit.

I was just about to mention this. Due to the requirement of strict scrutiny, what if permits were struck down during a review and we got constitutional carry as a result? That is what I hope for, but I doubt it happens.
