I've shot both the xd and the glock 9mm's. I carry the Glock 17 (9mm full size) on duty.
What I would suggest to you would be to see if you can't get out to the range and check them both out. I would not trade my glock for anything. The xd's are great guns, but for the money, I would still fall back on the glock... you will never find anything as reliable (in my opinion)
