Ok yeah, clickbait title. You got me. I didn’t wanna ask ‘How many mags?’ Although that’s kinda the topic of this one.
So, I learned the importance of having spare mags at an early age so I tend to start stocking up as soon as I procure a particular firearm, if indeed it uses a removable magazine. I do that for a few reasons, but mostly to keep me from having to scramble for a mag the day that one fails or is lost. Lot better to buy relaxed than in a pinch, and before models are either no longer popular or other reasons that would cause those mags to be hard to find. I was pleased that I bought quantities of mags for some of my little beretta 32 pistols when I bought the guns. Those mags all but disappeared.
The other primary reason I stock up is for shooting.
If I know I’m gonna shoot 5 boxes of 9mm through my 92 tomorrow, I’ll load up 33 mags the evening before and bag them. I’ve seen people struggle trying to load up mags and shoot (except for Hickock45!) and it can use up a lot of fluid shooting time that becomes broken up and you can’t stay in your groove, or just keep having fun shooting. So just buy a couple of drum mags for range days right? Sure, they’re fun too, but mostly shooting from a rest, lol.
So yeah, now I’m thinking I started this thread to justify why I buy a few spares and defend that practice to the people who grimace and throw out slurs of excess and call me the ‘H’ word.
I collect mags for each gun, more mags if the gun is redundant to my collection, bag them and label them and done. I store the mags in the dark recesses of my gun room in big plastic totes. It works well for me.
How many mags for your favorite handgun?
How do you manage them? This is your chance to defend yourself to the sour mag poor people whose mags you bought out from under them.
Of course most AR owners collect scads of mags for those, but they’re way cheaper and well you just need scads of mags for your AR. What’s your comfort number for enough mags for your guns? And don’t forget those hot gratuitous pics.

I do not feel like this is enough mags for a .22 pistol. I ordered a few more.

Flaming Liberace hoarder comes to mind, But then again when you pull up at Academy walk inside and realize you have more ammo than what's on the shelves in you're carry piece.

It's just a highly disciplined person who plans like this for lean ammo times...and the rest of us are just a lil bit green with envy Bruh...lol

I keep a bunch of mags for every gun too. I have two groups: one set to keep in the gun and also keep loaded as extra ready to shoot mags and the other group is range mags. I use the same brand and model mags for both the range and to keep loaded in the gun so that I know that the brand and model that works at the range will also work in the gun when needed. The same ones in the gun and loaded as extra standbys don't get cycled very often then I know the springs will work when needed. I shoot a lot - like two to three times a week and average 300 rounds per range session so I learned how to make mag springs last. In 9mm mags I only load 10 rounds in each at the range. I have a set of 6 mags that I use in all my CZ guns and that set of 6 is approaching 80,000 rounds since the last spring change. For 1911s I have a set of 12 mags that hold seven rounds of .45 ACP. I found that the springs in 8 round .45 mags wear out after a few dozen cycles. The 7 round mags will go hundreds of cycles before the springs need to be changed. I use Wolff 11 lb springs in the 1911 mags. John Moses Browning took several years to design the 1911 and you can be sure that he tried every possibility. If there is enough room for 8 rounds but he went back to using 7 then there was a reason. I read an article about springs that stated that there is a certain point in a spring's compression at which the life of the spring is severely shortened if you repeatedly compress the spring beyond this point. There is an engineering term for it but I don't remember the term. So downloading the high cap range mags makes the springs last much much longer.
Phew, that's a lot of info but since you asked what the rest of us do then I thought i would pass that along. Since I shoot so much I learned how to maintain and repair everything I own and I keep a supply of several backup parts of everything in the gun except for the slide, frame, and barrel. If a slide stop or an ejector or whatever breaks at the range I just pull a new one out the parts box when I get home and install it.

That's what is so good about guns that take Glock or AR mags. I consider them spare extra parts that you will need eventually.

Between you and I we have enough BX-25s to run through a pallet of .22 before having to reload any lol

Too many to count spread out all over 2 bedrooms in my house plus several in my truck. Just too many but none in plain sight.
