    Machine Gun??
GULFPORT, Miss. -- A federal judge has sentenced a 28-year-old Biloxi man to three years of probation and restitution of $600 for having a stolen machine gun.

U.S. District Judge Walker J. Gex III sentenced Verlon Chad McKenzie on Thursday.

The government said the machine gun is a .223-caliber Bushmaster.

An indictment, which was returned in May, charged McKenzie with possession of a stolen firearm, possession of a machine gun and possession of an unregistered firearm.

The Sun Herald reports McKenzie accepted a plea agreement in August on the stolen-firearm charge. He'd faced up to 10 years in prison.

besides the probation its almost cheaper to do that than do it legally. like if your grandpa had a fully auto gun and you found it i know its not legal but how much fines and jail time would you be facing.

Up to 40 years and $400,000.

It is typical that the scumbag's get off light and the 'good guys' get nearer the max.

    Just how it is.

But his attourney fees might be in the tens of thousands and employment will be an issue for the rest of his life. I bet one pull one bang sounds pretty good to him now. It just helps the anti-gun agenda everytime some derelict does something like that.

    A Bushmaster XM15-E2s, possibly modified...

Biloxi man gets 3 years’ probation for stolen machine gun

GULFPORT — A judge has sentenced Verlon Chad McKenzie of Biloxi to three years of probation and restitution of $600 for having a stolen machine gun.

U.S. District Judge Walker J. Gex III sentenced McKenzie, 28, on Thursday.

The government said the machine gun is a .223-caliber Bushmaster XM15-E2s.

An indictment, returned in May, charged McKenzie with possession of a stolen firearm, possession of a machine gun and possession of an unregistered firearm.

McKenzie accepted a plea agreement in August on the stolen-firearm charge. He’d faced up to 10 years in prison.

Court records show he agreed with the facts as presented by Assistant U.S. Attorney Annette Williams, but said he didn’t know the weapon was a machine gun.

Details of the plea were sealed. Public records in court files did not specify how McKenzie obtained the weapon.

There's no state registration for class III or anything else for that matter. Class III is registered w/ BATFE via your tax stamp and all the paperwork you fill out to buy it.

I remember a few years ago in Jackson a kid built a sten and went and shot it off the side of the road in BFE, at night, was promptly busted by SO and got 9 months in Atlanta.

Got the class III part. But for LE to know it was stolen, it had to be reported. Now I'm assuming the owner didn't report an untaxed automatic weapon as stolen. Would be self-defeating and just plain dumb. Ergo, the gun was "registered" ; just not to the thief.

So, a bull____ charge to perpetuate the public misconception about the need to register.

    Just sayin'

Stolen from law enforcement or government agency maybe? Because wouldn't that wee bit of info be in the first paragraph otherwise?

In Louisiana you have to register the firearm and the dealer has to fill an additional form to transfer that firearm to you. The Louisiana registration is mandatory and must be done before BATF will release the form to transfer the NFA item.
