This may be one of the most incredibly rare videos shot in Big Lake south of Lake Charles. This video was shot on Thursday Nov 1, 2012 off of The Big Lake Guide Service pier on the east side of the lake. This may be the first ever video of a manatee in the area. There have been reports, but not actual videos. This was reported to The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries. You can imagine the shock of the guy who took the video so there are a couple of BAD WORDS in this so you can turn the sound down. Please like and share this extremely rare mantatee sighting.

Sorry, he didn't put it on youtube so you have to use FB.

However rare they're not uncommon in Louisiana waters. Lake Cataouacthe is the only other place that I've heard they've been seen, although they're probably in all Southern Louisiana waters..

they used to have them in big numbers in the canals in Xochimilco in Mexico, but the locals developed a taste for them. now they are almost all gone becuase of being hunted and from pollution.

I had one scare the crap out of me in my boat slip in Madisonville a few years ago. It was just before TS Juan hit. I reported it to W&F who told me they are fairly rare but getting less so. Really scared me with all that heavy breathing coming from the water.

Steller's sea cows were wiped out by over-harvesting for their meat.
    :ohreally:
