My buddy has this rifle and is looking to sell or trade. He is a bow hunter and never shoots it. I wanted to get some thoughts on it from you guys. He is only looking for 75 bucks for it and its in pretty good shape. Is it a good little rifle for my 7 year old? Is the 22wmr any better than 22lr? I know its a little more expensive but not to worried about that. I did some research on the intertubes but everyone on here seems to give good advice so wanted some from people I trust. Thanks in advance for your help.

The 783 should be the older version of the 983. Tube fed bolt action. I have a synthetic stock version that I enjoy. It is accurate and at $75 you can't go wrong. If your 7yr old can shoulder the rifle then it's a great deal. you will spend more than that for a marlin 22lr.

Thank you for the reply. It is a little long for him but figured it would be a good one to give so he can get interested in shooting. I think i'll pick it up just to have and maybe get him a youth size with a shorter stock.
