So, apparently the new Rem 870 magazine tube has these nifty little nubs on the inside to keep the spring and assembly in, however this prevents the addition of an extended magazine tube since the follower can't move past them without being turned a certain way.

I'm assuming the only way to fix this is to grind those little nubs down and add the extension, I just wanted to check and see if anyone might have any other ideas before I figured out a way to get it done.

you're gonna want to replace that junk follower that Remington uses now also....try the S&J Hardware "no jam" follower....works great in my 870 with extended tube. its around
12 dollars and they had it shipped to me in about 4 days.

Actually just did it. The socket thing didn't work out, they pushed past the nubs when banged in, so it gave me an excuse to buy a dremel. The factory follower worked fine, just had to smooth out the end of the magazine tube with the dremel.
