An unusual take on behind-the-hip carry. You don't see many of these on holster makers websites. Not quite small-of-back, the potential spinal injury issue is seemingly much diminished. Some people refuse to build a holster like the above because they say it will cause you to sweep yourself on the draw. Tucker is one. Comments to that effect appreciated from all.

Tom Mernickle's holsters are reportedly top notch, all made from horsehide.

This is the only other holster of this type I have located on the web, by Black Hills Leather:

And I just had to get this in here from Mernickle, it's such a beautiful piece of work:

They look really nice, but looks like a horrible draw. I personally wouldn't use one. I can't even begin to know what exactly is wrong with it, but I assume there is a reason all the top holster makers won't make them, and a reason all the top instructors teach drawstrokes that wouldn't work with that holster.

Before I got my LCP I carried my Bersa that way iwb all day long, the only problem I ever ran into was that if I leaned on a wall or post just right it would eject the mag.

If you will notice, the Mernickle hoslter in the top photo isn't really an SOB model. It's carried very near where a lot of FBI cant holsters are placed.

And over on the S&W board, some guy is advocating an SOB holster like the one in the bottom photo for strongside center hip carry. Strange. Whatever rocks your boat.

I cannot see why that would be any better than a regular or FBI cant bet slide or other OTWB holster. He doesn'tgive any justification. Also, it appears as though it would increse movement and time for muzzle to be on target.

I read once SOB holster are popular in France, where sales clerks are reportedly required by law to carry firearms. The French may have something there. Must be their Cajun roots.
