How pricey is it to convert to a decent deer rifle? Changing stock/scope (rear mount) bent bolt and all that. Is it worth it? Would you just get a different gun? Does anyone have one for sale?

    Thanks!

Not worth it. OTOH, it works just fine as is as long as you do your part.
There are some scope mounts that replace the rear sight that are supposed to work fine. I'd leave the rest of it alone and put on a low power or red dot sight.

There's a guy who hunts for a living off the Northwest slope of Alaska. He's a poster on the high road named Caribou. He hunts with a basic Iron Sight Mosin Nagant. His threads are a bunch of fun and worth reading.

It's one of the most popular elk rifles in Washington. The indians buy them for the season, and pawn them after. It'll cost you about the price of the gun, plus a few fours of your time to convert. For $300 you can get a good savage 111 in a better cartridge.
