    Yep. Any chemical strong enough to remove the cosmoline will strip the finish. Only way to remove cosmoline without damage to finish is by "sweating" it out with heat. But who'd want to keep the original finish on anyways? I sure didn't. Finished mine with some colonial maple stain from Home Depot and Tru-Oil.
