That shouldn't be true. It is a rifle as far as ATF is concerned so 18 is the age unless you register it as a pistol.

    Might be like ammo...
Store employee: Is this for a pistol of a rifle?
    Customer: Pistol.
Store employee: Sorry Spanky, come back when you are a few years older.

I know I was under 21 when I purchased a shotgun from the Sports Authority or something similar that ain't there no more. It was on Williams in the shopping center with the Army surplus store.

I was told this on another site. I asked for a site and was advised to call ATF. Then I remembered there being a new 4473 and some new regs so I didn't completely dismiss it.

Here's a question. I thought before that if you wanted to use the AR lower for a pistol you just marked pistol when purchasing it. Now that it has it's own category, how would I designate an AR lower for a pistol build? Do I just build it to pistol standards?

Yes. Receivers can be built into pistols as long as the receiver is not designated a long gun or never built into one. Some manufacturers are producing pistol receivers just for this. Good Luck.
