I had a couple of barreled receivers laying around for ages. I finally started gathering parts to turn them back into rifles... man 03 parts aren't cheap these days. and wood "fugetaboutit"
After putting them together, then bringing them out for a test run, I realized they needed some more TLC if they were ever going to shoot straight again. The crowns were terrible and the rifling was pretty worn right at the muzzle. My small manual crowning tools was not going to help this problem. And the days of bringing a gun barrel to work are long gone. I went to a local gunsmith and he wanted way more than I was willing to spend.
I have access to a lathe in Missouri and travel there often for work. So I dragged the two rifles off to Missouri. I wound up having to cut about 3/16' off the barrels and re-crowning both.
The barrels will never sport a bayonet again but at least they shoot straight now.
